Please check out our new paper on multimodal language models in biodiversity and conservation: New frontiers in AI for biodiversity research and conservation with multimodal language models ! Our paper provides a thorough yet accessible introduction to the capabilities and transformative potential of MML models in biodiversity and conservation applications. Furthermore, we outline existing hurdles to implementing these techniques in real-world scenarios and propose directions for future research to overcome these challenges. We aim to foster robust discussion with this paper and provide information for future research into the sustainable and equitable development of MML models as a potential paradigm shift in AI for biodiversity monitoring and conservation. It is currently in submission but any comments are welcome!
