WILDLABS Awards 2025 Statistics

Using our statistical analysis of energy (referencing my previous post on the Boring Fund 2024 stats), and with the judging process still ongoing until the end of the week, I’m excited to share some insights into this year’s applications.

And the first one is, the number of applications: over the 12-week application period, we received an impressive total of 251 applications!

I’d like to begin by thanking every project team that took the time to submit an application. We understand the effort involved and continuously try to streamline the process while maintaining the quality of proposals we receive.

Just over two-thirds (n=174) of the projects applied for the $50,000 grant category, reinforcing our decision to continue expanding the availability of these larger grants.

Once again this year, we observed a well-balanced distribution of project types, with technology adoption and application being the most common. This aligns closely with the trends we saw in 2024.

During the application period, we received a lot of questions: 89 questions which was 44 less than we received last year! This may show that our guidance and the information we provide around the awards has improved.

60 arrived on our awards@wildlabs.net email, 27 were asked on our Q&A page, and 3 arrived by other channels.

Below you can see a summary of the types of questions we received.

We collected data on the global regions where the planned project work will be conducted. Last year, North America and Europe had the strongest representation, and this year it was our goal to increase representation of projects working in the Global South. We were delighted to see that in 2025 the majority of applications plan to work in Africa and Asia, with 27.5% and 20.8% respectively!

This demonstrates that we are nearing our goal of having at least 50% of WILDLABS Awards projects led by or involving countries from the Global South, a figure we aim to increase even further in the future.
