I'll be at COP16 in Calí next month and am wondering what other conservation technology folks will be there as well! I know @StephODonnell and @TaliaSpeaker will be there as well.

Great question - I'd love to know who else is going!

Hi all!
I’ll be there, and I’m curious to know who else from this amazing community is attending.
I’m also wondering which events during COP will be related to technology for conservation. I propose we centralize events from colleagues into an online form, where we can all keep track of what’s happening during COP. Let me know if there are already efforts like this in place. If not, we can create one for our community to fill in.

This is a great idea! In past events its usually carly or our team pulling together a tech schedule - but if we could create one collaboratively that would be AMAZING.

Hi @jsulloa ,
Happy to meet you there, what will be your dates?
So far in terms of events that might be of interest there is obviously the Innovation Tech Expo in the Blue zone but there are also side events I have noted:

Hi @Adrien_Pajot and @StephODonnell ,
I just created this Google form, which I'm filling in with the information Adrian provided. If you have additional events, feel free to fill out the form so we can have a curated spreadsheet with events and make the most of this conference.
I also added some events that we will have at Casa Humboldt, by the Green Zone. You are all invited to come and visit!
@Adrien_Pajot Lucky me, I live in Cali, so I’m already here and settled in for the whole conference. No travel needed! 😉

@carlybatist and colleagues, here is the agenda for Casa Humboldt (Green Zone)!
Check out the spreadsheet with events to see updated information on key events on this and other locations.
See you soon!

Hola Carly y colegas, acá les dejo la agenda de la Casa Humboldt (Zona Verde)
Denle una mirada a la ficha con eventos actualizados sobre tecnología y biodiversidad en esta y otras localidades.
Nos vemos pronto!
23 September 2024 9:49pm
Awesome, thanks for sending the link - will definitely make it over there for the tech events!
23 September 2024 9:49pm
Thanks everyone, really useful information and hope to meet most of you there! We will have a booth at the Biodiversity and Innovation expo from 21st to 23rd so come find me and then will be itinerant until the 28th!
23 September 2024 9:49pm
And Casa Humboldt appears to be right next to our Airbnb which is great!
23 September 2024 9:49pm
Here another event to annotate in the agenda: Sixth Science-Policy Forum for Biodiversity. October 26 and 27.
Colleagues are going to have an amazing panel discussion about Technology, AI, & data for Biodiversity (Session 9)
23 September 2024 9:49pm
I'll be there too and running a panel similar in scope to the session 9 @jsulloa mentions, but earlier in the week. U have added it to the excel table via the form, but more info here:
When: 22 October from 14:00 to 18:00 (including the two panel discussions and a networking space afterwards)
Where: GREAT Cassa Britanica - Casa Obeso Mejía
Format: A curated discussion of approximately 1 hour, with 3-4 panellists.
Full description: Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way we do business, the way we socialise, and the way we consume. Will it change the way we respond to the biodiversity crisis? This panel will bring together experts in AI to introduce state-of-the art applications that aim to help us bend the curve of biodiversity loss. We will explore how AI is changing the way we monitor biodiversity, using sensors and smartphones to build ever larger datasets of our natural world and AI algorithms to unlock the meaning in these data. However, there are many obstacles in the way of wider uptake of these technologies, from costs and training to data access and trust. The expert panel will debate the degree to which AI is likely to live up to the hype and help humanity bend the curve of biodiversity loss. They will also reflect on what needs to be done to ensure this exciting new technology is delivering for biodiversity.
Panel: Dr Tom August (chair), Dr Tanya Berger-Wolf, Dr Carly Batist, [hoping for a local researcher]
23 September 2024 9:49pm
Hi Tom,
Great eventl! I could join and/or could put you in contact with local researchers to complete the panel.
I'll send you my contact details through DM.
