Hi,
just wanted to let whoever is interested that v.1.3 of DeepFaune is out! Deepfaune is a software that runs on any standard computer and allow you to identify species in cam-trap pictures or videos, sort them by folder, return a spreadsheet with results and more. Easy install, in particular on Windows (just one exe file away from you ;-)). This version of the software now has even better classification performance and allow you to choose between two different detectors - try them, and identify which one works best on your pictures.
Download the software there: https://www.deepfaune.cnrs.fr/en/
For now, we limit ourselves to the European fauna, but with excellent performance (see list of species and performance here: https://plmlab.math.cnrs.fr/deepfaune/software/-/blob/master/README.md?ref_type=heads#performance).
In the background, Deepfaune also implements important computations to provide well-calibrated results at the sequence-level (sequence=series of pictures="sighting event"). See https://zslpublications.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/rse2.412 for more details.
Anyway, the software looks like this for the user:
And you can blur humans beofre sorting pictures (only if you want). There's also an experimental counting feature (see Preferences).
If you're doing camera-trapping in Europe, please give it a try and let us know what you think of it!
We always appreciate feedback.
As we are also the team developing the classification model used by the software, let us know whether some species are missing that should be added (we have many requests for golden jackal for instance, which is not yet in the list), and if you do have annotated pictures of these species to share.
Enjoy!
The Deepfaune team
PS for North American trappers: Laurence Clarfeld provides a fine-tuned Deepfaune model for New England fauna, in case that can be useful to north American camera-trappers: https://code.usgs.gov/vtcfwru/deepfaune-new-england
