Hi everyone! I would really appreciate some advice on an internship possibility that I could follow, as part of my Master's program in GIS. It would be a position with Archipelagos Marine Research Institute in Samos, Greece.
I would really like to gain the experience of applying GIS to marine conservation, and even learn some data collection techniques in the field! But, since the organisation provides acommodation and food, I have to pay to join them - 220 euros/week. The fee is a bit hefty, but luckily I can get Erasmus+funding which will help me cover the costs. Nevertheless, I am still a bit hesitant as the organisation is widely advertised, and I feel a bit guilty paying for an internship.
If any of you have heard of Archipelagos or worked with them, I would be grateful to hear what you think. I am wondering if adding work experience with them on my CV will not be regarded so well - again, since they are so well 'advertised' and that you pay to get to work with them. Should I follow the opportunity, since I can, or are my hesitations correct and I should work to find something else?
Thank you so much for any advice!
