Like to introduce to you Maungakiekie Songbird - a urban based community project that has the goal to enhance the natural habitat around One Tree Hill (large park area in central Auckland city). This project has been up and running for 4 years and has over 800 houshold members which is an amazing 1/3 of all houses within the halo area. This high level of engagement has come by way of offering households a wide range of free resources such as pest traps for rodents, possums and wasps, a range of native trees for planting in their gardens, bird feeders and weta motels. The project has received funding support from local council as well as Government agencies. We also tie in with local schools supporting their environmental programs.
