🌿 Interested in Bioinformatics for Conservation? Let’s Build a New WILDLABS Group Together!
Hi everyone!
I’d like to propose a new group here on WILDLABS: Bioinformatics for Conservation.
This group would be a space for conservationists, researchers, students, and technologists who use (or want to use) genomics, eDNA, metagenomics, and bioinformatics tools to support biodiversity research, species monitoring, and ecosystem conservation.
We’d focus on:
🔬 Sharing protocols and workflows (e.g., genome assembly, microbiome analysis, eDNA pipelines)
🧪 Highlighting field-ready and low-cost technologies (like Bento Lab, Oxford Nanopore, Galaxy, etc.)
🌍 Supporting inclusive science and capacity building in the Global South
🤝 Connecting people across disciplines for collaboration, mentorship, and troubleshooting
📚 Creating a living hub of curated resources and community expertise
Whether you’re sequencing in the lab, analyzing on a laptop in the field, teaching students, or just getting started—we want you here.
Are you interested in joining this group?
Please leave a comment or like this post to show your support. We need at least 20 expressions of interest to get it off the ground!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, ideas, and use cases!
Let’s build this together.

Thank you for creating this post to gauge interest, Nabil! It sounds like this fits under the already existing eDNA & Genomics group. Curious to hear your thoughts!
