RFP: AI + freshwater biodiversity

WILDLABS colleagues—

My team at TNC is looking for support as we try to understand opportunities of AI applications for freshwater (eco)systems. The attached RFP is for a short-term opportunity to scope out the most promising applications of AI. However, we are particularly interested in also using this as a chance to develop institutional relationships for longer-term collaboration. We will start reviewing proposals May 1 but just let me know if a proposal will be submitted after that date.

The Nature Conservancy is seeking a doctoral or post-doctoral researcher to help us understand opportunities to leverage artificial intelligence for the conservation of freshwater biodiversity.

The primary objective of this short-term project is to assess the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) for applications related to monitoring status and changes in freshwater biodiversity & freshwater ecosystems. With emphasis on approaches that enable monitoring at watershed-scales—including within low resource contexts of the Global South—this research project aims to provide a roadmap for TNC to prioritize applications and partnerships for AI for freshwater biodiversity conservation.

The attached RFP describes the specific activities and deliverables to support the stated objective. However, we also welcome additional/alternative approaches that may better achieve the primary objective.

We are seeking to receive proposals by April 30, 2025. Please feel free to share this RFP among your networks, and reach out to me directly with any clarifying questions.
