Hello! We are excited to announce that this year's Black Mammalogists Week events will be held September 15-21, 2024. This will be the third such virtual event hosted by Black Mammalogists Week (https://blackmammalogists.com/), which was founded in 2020 "to provide opportunities for current and aspiring Black mammalogists across the Diaspora to form conscious and fruitful connections, in addition to illuminating historical and present-day Black contributions to the field of mammalogy". Over the past four years, Black Mammalogists Week has reached tens of thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds within-- and far beyond-- the Diaspora through workshops, panels, giveaways, scholarships, and more.
We are seeking specific partners, speakers, and supporters to help make our event a success! We are looking to collaborate with conservation tech experts, wildlife practitioners, naturalists, wildlife artists, mammal enthusiasts, and more. If you have expertise to share, please fill out this form: https://tinyurl.com/BMW2024Planning. Speakers and workshop organizers will receive honoraria. In particular, we are looking for conservation tech practitioners who are available on September 16th for a tech panel.
Please contact BlackMammalogists@gmail.com if you have additional questions.

Hi Asia @blackmammalogistsweek :)
Pleasure to connect with you! I'm part of the WILDLABS team here, supporting our East Africa Community.
Thanks for sharing details on the Black Mammalogists Week events which sound exciting, informative and vital for amplifying the voices and perspectives of Black mammalogists across the world. I'd love to invite you to share the events on our Events page here for visibility with our wider community.
Additionally, for the September 16th tech panel, I'd like to suggest a few conservation tech practitioners/mammalogists here on WILDLABS:
- Simon Musila, MAKENYA App (@MAKENYA) - Mammal Atlas Kenya project is a Kenyan Citizen Science App to monitor rare and common mammals.
- Owino Raymond, CLP Awardee (@Owino_Raymond) - Tech4Wildlife Leaders: Resolving Human-Giraffe Conflict
- Adventina Anthony, WiCT 2024 (@Tina) - Meet Our Cohort & Mentors: Women in Conservation Technology Programme, Tanzania 2024
- Susan Chege, WiCT 2023 (@SusanChege) - Women in Conservation Technology, Tanzania: Unveiling Our Cohort
Hope this information is useful!
Best wishes :)
