During the Variety Hour this morning, the topic of translating between languages was discussed at some length. Specifically in the context of these forums and related video conferences.
As some folks noted, most web browsers already provide pretty good page translation features (e.g. Safari, Chrome, Firefox). However, those only translate existing text on the page - they don't help with text you write, such as when composing forum messages.
While one can always use a translation service manually, e.g. Google Translate, that is of course a bit inconvenient.
Fortunately, on Macs, there is a system-wide translation service which works well for this purpose, in any native application, including Safari. I used it to translate this post into Spanish (so hopefully it reads well to a native speaker 😅).
Unfortunately, some web browsers block that standard system service - notably, Chrome. I tested out a variety of Chrome plug-ins that claim to provide similar functionality, but none of them worked (or were no more convenient than just using https://translate.google.com manually in a different tab). For now, alas, Chrome users' best bet seems to be to switch to a different web browser.

During the discussion, I claimed that searching WILDLABS content in a different language is not possible in spite of the translation tools in browsers. Someone ( was it @carlybatist ?) then pointed out that this might work with ChatGPT. I haven't had the chance to test that yet. If it works, then that would be awesome.
