Understanding climate justice

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to learn more about climate justice. Could you please help me understand what it entails? Also, I'd appreciate any recommendations for resources or materials that could deepen my understanding.

Thank you!

Hi Sarah,

Climate Justice is a term, more so a movement that acknowledges that climate change has unevenly harmful social, economic, and public health impacts on vulnerable populations. Thus, advocates for climate justice are striving to have these inequities addressed head-on through long-term mitigation and adaptation strategies.

I am happy to hear about your urge to understand this subject matter, I have shared some links with you for resourceful persons and websites that you can educate yourself more, and conveniently. Let me know if you need further help.

Hi @sarahmshanga ,

climate justice entails finding solutions to the climate crisis that not only reduce emissions or protect the natural world, but that do so in a way which creates a fairer, more just and more equal world in the process. It links human rights and development to achieve a human-centered approach, safeguarding the rights of the most vulnerable people and sharing the burdens and benefits of climate change and its impacts equitably and fairly.

Climate justice has its principles as follows;

i) Respect and protect human right

ii) Support the right to development

iii) Share benefits and burdens equitably

iv) Ensure that decisions on climate change are participatory, transparent and accountable

v) Highlight gender equality and equity

I hope this will help you.
