YOUNG INVESTIGATORS SYMPOSIUM ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
FEBRUARY 18, 2025

Degradation of natural ecosystems, climate change, and biodiversity loss are some of society's most vexing problems. This one-day symposium, sponsored by the Departments of Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology & Statistics at Columbia University, brings together 8 young leaders in this area to discuss how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can leverage massive increases in data availability to help us understand these vital and complex problems and potentially advance the pace of solutions.

This Young Investigators Symposium aims to catalyze synergistic interactions between researchers working on developing and applying AI methods in ecology, evolution, and conservation biology. While all three domains are experiencing very fast growth, the development of AI-based analysis is primarily happening independently. Our symposium will bring these communities together to discuss topics of mutual interest to make progress, including central questions and theoretical and methodological issues.

If you are interested in participating, send your CV, title talk, and abstract to Maire Keane (mk4283@columbia.edu) by January 1, 2025, with the subject “AI Symposium”. We will notify selected participants by January 20, 2025. Please note that travel and lodging costs will be fully covered for all participants.
