Bezos Earth Fund, AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge call for $50K-2M projects

The AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge initiative from the Bezos Earth Fund has opened a call for proposals for "exploring new ideas for multiplying the impact of climate and nature efforts using modern AI"

Deadline: 30 July 2024 - the deadline has passed.

The call is open for applications focusing on biodiversity conservation, sustainable proteins, and power grid optimization. The latter two are mentioned to indicate how the budget will be spread over themes. The fourth theme is 'Wildcard solutions' for climate change and nature loss.

Eligible applicants are global academic institutions and USA based 501(c)(3) entities. ( if you don't know what it means, it probably does not include your organization ) and .

The call is organized in a couple of phases. Phase 1 is a kind of idea phase ( innovation sprint ) and phase 2 an implementation phase.  30 Phase 1 winners will each receive $50K and they are eligible for phase 2. Phase 2 awards 15 applicants up to $2M  each. Phase two projects are to last two years.

This is round 1 of 3. In total these rounds will award around $100M

Personal remark : Lots of money, but the Bezos Earth Fund also has lots of visibility and so there will likely be stiff competition.
