Desde septiembre de 2024, el proyecto Siguiendo Ballenas ha marcado diez ejemplares de ballena franca austral, Eubalaena australis, con transmisores satelitales en el Golfo Nuevo, Argentina. Cada ballena recibió un nombre inspirado en la tabla periódica: Kalium, Moscovium, Niquel, entre otros, y sus recorridos pueden seguirse en línea. Esta iniciativa permite identificar áreas oceánicas críticas, como zonas de alimentación y rutas de migración, contribuyendo a orientar políticas de conservación y gestión marina frente a amenazas como la pesca industrial y la exploración petrolera. Since September 2024, the Tracking Whales project has tagged ten southern right whales (Eubalaena australis) with satellite transmitters in the Golfo Nuevo, Argentina. Each whale was given a name inspired by the periodic table: Kalium, Moscovium, Nickel, among others, and their journeys can be followed online. This initiative helps identify critical ocean areas, such as feeding grounds and migratory routes, supporting the development of conservation policies and marine management in the face of threats like industrial fishing and oil exploration.
