Recycled & DIY Remote Monitoring Buoy

Hello everybody, My name is Brett Smith, and I wanted share an open source remote monitoring buoy we have been working on in Seychelles as part of our company named "...

5 5

Hi Brett, this ocean lab sychelles is great to hear from you! I love your remote monitoring buoy project, especially the recycling of DFAD buoys and the design of custom-built ones that are full of interesting features. The expandability of the navigation buoys enabling it to be configured as hydrophones, cameras, or water quality monitors is a great feature. The technical marvels, such as recycling DFADs' circuits, making your own hydrophone, and designing a super-efficient system, are terrific. Moreover, it is encouraging to witness the deployment of your early system, particularly the live video and water quality data you have collected. You will definitely make a positive impact on the Wildlabs community with your knowledge of electrical engineering and software development. I care to hear more of your discoveries and any news that you will be sharing. Keep doing what you excel at!

Thank you for sharing!

Hi Brett,

I am interested in developing really low cost multi channel underwater acoustic recorders.  Can you tell me a bit more about the board and stuff you were using for yours? You can get me at chris@wilcoanalytics.org.

Thanks,

Chris

Addressing Climate Change: The Role of Industrial Projects and Financial Institutions in Environmental Degradation

Hello to you too Sarah.

As someone who is also interested in possible measure regarding climate changes. this is a meticulous idea, I must admit!.

looking forward to more discussions here.

Dear Szilvia,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestions. I completely agree that taking action and engaging in dialogue is crucial for addressing climate issues. I have been exploring organizations I could join and work with as a volunteer; however, I’m still unsure where or how to begin and would appreciate any guidance you can offer on getting started.

If you have any recommendations on resources or tips for effectively engaging in advocacy, such as writing petitions or connecting with decision makers, I would be grateful for your advice.

I’m eager to learn and be part of the solution, and your insights would be invaluable in helping me take the first step.

Effect of Climatic change on Animals "LIONS🦁"

Hello. Hope everyone is great.I have a question for anyone that has participated either  in research or any readings regarding effects of climatic change on physiology of...

2 6

Hello Nora.

Hope the information below will be usefull.

Climate change impacts lions’ physiology by causing extreme heat stress, which can lead to dehydration, impaired metabolism, and overall health issues. Reproductive physiology is affected as heat stress may reduce fertility and impact pregnancy and cub survival. Lions' immune systems can weaken due to increased disease risk, while behavioral changes, such as becoming more nocturnal to avoid heat, can affect their energy and nutrition. Additionally, reduced prey availability due to climate change can lead to malnutrition and poor body condition.

And in the side of young male and female, young male lions are particularly vulnerable as their higher energy expenditure and roaming behavior expose them to greater risks from climate impacts, including decreased prey and water availability. In contrast, young female lions face challenges related to reproductive health and cub survival. While both sexes are affected, young males are more prone to the negative effects due to their solitary lifestyle and increased conflict risks.

Hello, WILDLABS does not offer any training apart from WiCT. The trainings under resources on WILDLABS are shared by our members who consist of conservation organisations and NGOs. Please read the details of the training page for training you are interested in undertaking, you will find the organisation that offers this listed or perhaps the one that posted the resource opportunity on WILDLABS, I also filled for the course through the same process.

I hope I have responded to your satisfaction. I guess I need to edit my post so that it is not misleading 🤗

Measuring Carbon Foot Prints

Hello Techs, What could be the easiest yet efficient technology for measuring carbon footprints?

2 0

Hello Adventina!

I am not expert on this field but I happened to learn that measuring carbon footprints can range from simple to complex, depending on the scope and precision required. For individuals looking for an easy yet efficient method, I will suggest Carbon Footprint Calculator. This tool allows users to calculate their carbon footprint by inputting data related to household energy use, transportation, waste, and more.
